Sakho slammed in Senegal storm
|
Diafra Sakho's unexpected appearance for West Ham in yesterday's 1-0 win against Bristol City has been met with a furious reaction by football fans from his home nation.
A steady stream of French and Senegalese supporters took to Sakho's Facebook page in order to express their dissatisfaction at his appearance at Ashton Gate yesterday whilst Senegal are preparing to face Algeria in their third AFCON tie tomorrow.
So surprised by the negative reaction was Sakho - who scored the only goal of the game nine minutes from time, having replaced Enner Valencia early in the second half - that he composed a message to all those expressing their anger at his unexpectedly early return to first team football.
"I took the time to look at all your reactions on social networks," he wrote. Very quickly the joy within me after scoring and saving my club has turned into sadness and anger.
"Sadness because some of your words touched me deeply, in my heart - and this without you knowing what really happened . Great wrath too, because after all my struggles day after day, season after season to finally wear the jersey of my homeland - the only nation that matters to me - you doubt my love and my patriotism.
"My not going to the African Cup of Nations 2015 - my first AFCON - was not painless. The dream of contributing to the victory of my country came this year, but is not dead. Never doubt the lion sleeping in me, as I never doubt the passion that burns within you."
Sam Allardyce, asked about Sakho's inclusion after the match said he wasn't aware of West Ham having done anything wrong by fielding the 24-year-old, who scored his tenth goal of the campaign today.
"He’s still unable to fly," Allardyce revealed. "We had to drive him down in a limo on Saturday afternoon, but other than that he said he can get out on the pitch and just see how he goes.
“Today was about putting him on the bench with the hope we didn’t have to use him, but in the end bringing him on was the most important tactical decision for us.
"Yesterday I spoke with the chairman and said he looks alright. We don’t think we’re doing anything wrong with what we’ve done and how we’ve approached it."

Senegal v Algeria on Eurosport at 5:45 this evening. Crunch final Group match which could keep Kouyate in Africa a bit longer.

Wickham has played left wing all season I thought?
Hardly a target man.

It's true, Sakho has worked out spectacularly, but let us all be honest- we all thought at the time of his signing he'd be a total benchwarmer- at least 4th in the pecking order behind Carroll, Valencia and Zarate. He has surprised us all, which just goes to show you can never be certain.
Otherwise Man City would have just bought Bony 18 months ago for half the price they just paid, and Swansea would have sold Michu after his first season for 25 million quid.

I'd never heard of Sakho either but I had heard of Wickham. I don't think you can really say that he'd have played well with Sakho as the club would not have signed both players.

I think they may have been complementary. Wickham would play well with Sakho, but not with Carroll. I still reckon he would have been a popular player at UP, but obviously I' much happier with Sakho. Personally I had never heard of Sakho at all until we were in the frame for him.

The point about the Sakho and Wickham debate is really about their contrasting styles and what that says about the manager.
One is quick, skilful, direct and likes to play facing the goal and running on to through balls - not an Allardyce type of player.
The other is a big physical target man with limited skill or pace and a consistently poor scoring record - very much an Allardyce type of player.
It's no mystery that our excellent group of signings over the summer (and the pace and movement that we have for the first time as a result) has coincided with the responsibility for transfers having been taken away from him

I have an idea to prevent such issues in future:
Don't play a tournament in fucking January, you soppy cunts.

Ernie Johnson is right. By sending Sakho in a limo is just a red herring to cover our tracks just in case Senegal try to take us to FIFA. On a Coach or Flight you have more room than a frigging Limo. I'm sure there is space on a coach/flight to have a massage, not so in a Limo.

I'm not claiming Sullivan is some kind of genius in the transfer market but the fact is that Sakho is the sort of player we should be signing and Conor Wickham isn't.
I think Sakho has got more goals this season so far than Wickham has in about 3 seasons or something?

It's hit and miss, and you can never tell exactly how it's going to work out. There are so few sure things.
Some Allardyce signings have been bad, some have been good.
Sakho has been really good, but most of Sullivan's other signings have been pretty gash. Zarate?

Is it a mistruth though, I thought it was common knowledge? Alardyce had sacked him off because he wanted Wickham but then that deal collapsed so Sakho was called back.
I remember some people claiming on here a bit back that Wickham wouldn't have been that bad a signing. IMO he's massivley overrated and you only have to look at their respective scoring records this season to see that. Wickham is the absolute epitome of a Meatloaf signing.
